Today, Friday of March 25th, is International Waffle Day. While it isn't widely celebrated in the United States (we actually celebrate our Waffle Day on August 24th, the day the Waffle Iron was invented), it is hugely popular in Sweden and other parts of the world. The origins of International Waffle Day are actually pretty humorous - legend has it that that originally, March 25th (nine months before Christmas) was a day of observance for Lady Day, or the Feat of the Annunciation, celebrated by Swedish Christians. It was called "Vårfrudagen," Well, Vårfrudagen happens to sound a lot like "Våffeldagen", which means Waffle Day. People found this funny, and the tradition grew from there.
